Alvin Washington Green was Gayle Conger's grandfather. He was murdered. He owned a Sawmill up Big Cottonwood Canyon across from the Spruces. He and neighbor took lumber to Ogden to sell. They ran into a women who wanted ride back to Salt Lake. They agreed and stopped at a saloon in Murray. They spent the evening there. When the saloon was closed the three (including Green) were asleep and were left. When it reopened the two aside from Green where gone. He was hard to awaken. He did and left and was later spotted in another saloon in Murray. He complained of being tired and was allowed to rest. When he was checked on later he was dead. An inquest was held and it was determined that the women from Ogden who had been given a ride had poisoned the two men as both of them were missing their money. She was arrested and put in jail. It was first thought that he died of alcoholism but the family said no and the inquest was held. This was around 1896-1897 and was statewide news. When it was determined he was poisoned the county refused to pay the cost to have his stomach contents analyzed. This was a crucial piece of evidence that was needed and led to the women's release.
